Center for Food Safety in Central Viet Nam
CENTER FOR FOOD SAFETY IN CENTRAL VIET NAM

 

The Center for Food Safety of central provinces located at 8 Tran Phu, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province. It was established in 2009 based on Decision No. 74 / QD-BYT of the Ministry of Health, and belongs to Institute Pasteur in Nha Trang which is managed by  the Ministry of Health. The Center operates in eleven provinces of central Vietnam with main following tasks: conducting risk assessment, food safety testing, inspection of imported foods, certification of compliance with food safety norms and providing both professional and technical supportive training for personnel of the offices it oversees.

The Center includes a system of laboratories which meets accredited international standards ISO/IEC 17025, recognized by the Bureau of Accreditation (BoA) - Ministry of Science and Technology since 2010 with code VILAS 410 and Ministry of Health, The Ministry of Industry and Trade designated as a testing facility for state management of food safety according to Circular 20/2013 /TTLT-BYT-BCT-BNNPTNT from 2014. In 2017, the Center was designated by the Ministry of Health to carry out state inspections of food safety for imported food under the management scope of the Ministry of Health and certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and it was registered for testing activities under Decree 107/2016 / ND-CP with more than 377 criteria of chemistry and food microbiology.

With a team of experienced testers vigorously trained in Vietnam and in other countries to enhance their expertise, the Center provides the following services: training, testing and analyzing the quality and safety of products and biological products in order to comprehensively meet the diverse requirements of research, product development, testing and service along with sampling at the request of businesses and individuals in central Vietnam as well as across the country.

For the smooth execution of professional guidance on food safety and prevention of food poisoning and food-borne diseases in the provinces of the region, the Center has been equipped with a system of well maintained and calibrated state-of-the-art equipment include: Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography (HPTLC), Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography- tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-of-Flight (MALDI-TOF MS), Sequencer, Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE), PCR, real-time PCR, Elisa, etc. At the same time, to ensure the accuracy of the test results as well as maximizing the performance of the equipment, the Center always uses the best chemical and biological products from reputable manufacturers and brands in the market such as: Merck, 3M, Oxoid, Sigma, Scharlau ...... * In the field of testing:

The Center currently has two laboratories for physicochemical and food microbiological testing, undertaking specialized functions and tasks for each testing field: basic physics, toxicology, chemistry, plant protection substances, banned substances, antibiotics, heavy metals, preservatives, vitamins, microbiology, ... in food, ingredients, water and animal feed. With many years of development experience, the competence of the center's laboratories has been confirmed and recognized across the country with the latest testing techniques based on advanced and modern equipment.

The center is continuing to expand the accreditation for groups of regulated products of relevant Ministries and Departments to better meet the needs of customers and at the same time, assist businesses with product development on a global scale.

- State inspection on imported food under the management of the Ministry of Health.

* Training services:

Our team of qualified and experienced staff/professionals has been providing retraining and continuing education as well as training services for units and enterprises all over the country.

          Including

- Improving technical skills and competences in the area of food safety for testing establishments

- Training testers on food safety and improving the skills of analysts for units and businesses.

- Training in-depth analysis techniques right on the equipment of laboratories or the center to help units and enterprises improve their capacity to control product and goods quality and set up a laboratory system by themselves that meets ISO/IEC 17025 standards

- Customized training programs: In addition to the courses in the program, the center also designs courses according to individual requirements, suitable to the demands of the Organization /Business as well as the learning requirement of customers.

* Other services:

Besides the field of testing and training, the center also provides other services such as:

- Food sampling at the request of customers with a team of staffs with many years of experience, who are trained and certified in food sampling techniques.

- Taking control of product quality during production and processing from the beginning to the finished product for units and businesses in need.
